Cutting Board Design/Fabrication

Prerequisites:

• Use of table saw, especially making miter cuts
• Gluing
• Thickness planing
• Routing

Materials: Student will purchase their own materials after 1st session

Objectives:

1. Use several different materials to make a 3D-patterned cutting board consisting of square elements

Description:

1. The first meeting will be an introduction to the methods of making a 12” x 20” cutting board. Subsequent sessions will be determined by instructor.

2. Students will purchase their own materials of choice according to instructor’s requirements

3. An initial square element will be created by cutting the separate pieces and gluing together

4. A first row of elements will be glued together in a jig. This will be repeated for the required number of element rows

5. Two element rows will be glued together in a jig, followed by the remaining element rows

6. Board will be cut and planed to final size, followed by the routing of a finger groove at both ends
