Class Objective and Description:
The milling machine holds a spinning cutting bit that faces down towards the work table which holds the secured work piece. The operation of removing material is controlled by moving the work piece in an x-y horizontal plane into the stationary spinning cutter. The work table holding the work piece and cutting tool can also be moved up and down providing a z axis.
By adding the rotating table accessory to the work table we provide a rotational function to the x, y and z movements. As with all milling operations you have a clear view of the spinning cutter as the material is being removed.
This class introduces the basic set up process and use of the rotary table on the mill.
Useful operations include:
Cutting precise concentric circles
Cut around a protruding component of a project piece
Cutting a large diameter shallow hole with a flat bottom
Cut arcs and circular pieces
